Sad stuff on the street feels strangely pertinent to this project.
Assorted notes, sketches & ramblings undertaken as part of MA communication design at CSM.
Simple (and shamelessly cut & pasted) sketch for my catalogue poster. I want it to have something of a kind of ‘spotters guide’ about it. Like a bird watching poster or those wildlife ones that used to come free with the Observer.
A very roughly sketch map showing current site (black and green), movement (yellow) and past (blue).
(This is a starting point rather than an exact plan for my map)
Scottish Country Dancing in Diagrams 1955
(so happy to FINALLY know how to dance ‘Miss Nancy Frowns’. I can relax know)
THESE fascinating photos of Florida are not strictly anything (at all) to do with London but they at least correspond with my interest in man and nature sat right up close to one another.
Printing demands a humility of mind, for the lack of which many of the fine arts are even now floundering in self-conscious and maudlin experiments. There is nothing simple or dull in achieving the transparent page. Vulgar ostentation is twice as easy as discipline.

I own a handful of these Herb Lester maps and I love them all- definitely keeping them at the back of my mind when working on my own map. I enjoy the fact that they present new angles on London both in terms of things to do and how you can show the city visually.
For the ‘envisioning london’ project i’m working from St Dunstan’s in the East.
Leanne Shapton’s ‘Important Artifacts…’- the story of a relationship told through an auction catalogue, simultaneously dry and, seemingly, factual yet emotive, involving and fascinating.
