Simple (and shamelessly cut & pasted) sketch for my catalogue poster. I want it to have something of a kind of ‘spotters guide’ about it. Like a bird watching poster or those wildlife ones that used to come free with the Observer.

THESE fascinating photos of Florida are not strictly anything (at all) to do with London but they at least correspond with my interest in man and nature sat right up close to one another.

Printing demands a humility of mind, for the lack of which many of the fine arts are even now floundering in self-conscious and maudlin experiments. There is nothing simple or dull in achieving the transparent page. Vulgar ostentation is twice as easy as discipline.
I own a handful of these Herb Lester maps and I love them all- definitely keeping them at the back of my mind when working on my own map. I enjoy the fact that they present new angles on London both in terms of things to do and how you can show the city visually.
